Yeah, 429 and 427 are totally different engines, the 427 is an FE (360,390,428) and the 429 is a Lima or 385 series (429 and 460) $900 is a bit much for a 429 that needs head work, unless it is a cobra jet (which have bigger ports/stronger bottom end. If your gonna go the big block route, I'd suggest going to the junkyard and find the earliest 460/429 you can get in a lincoln or T-bird, they usually run strong. (my bro has an unrebuilt '73 460 in his '77 4wd truck, and it'll smoke the 44" tires!) plan on spending about $150-200 for the engine and $100 for the C-6 your gonna need. Then spend the other money you save on a Mustang II front-end kit, and rebuild the motor later.
: In the classifieds of my local newspaper, some one was selling a rebuilt 429 cubic inch big block V-8 for 900 dollars. It needed head work, but thats about it I think. It also came with a C6 transmission. Unless I am mistaken, that engine is the same one they have in the old Shelby Cobra. I was just wondering if I could fit it inside my Maverick? If it could, then I would get it instead of the 5.0L Mustang engine. But it sounds a little crazy, and I'll need much better brakes.
: Thanks!
