First thing I would do is pull the plugs & run a compression check on all the cylinders. Dont know what the spec is but should be over 100 lbs & they should all be within 10 or 15% of each other.You can buy a nice compression tester from Sears for $24. A good tool to own. If that checks ok then bring #1 up on its compression stroke & line up 0 degrees (or TDC) on your timming marks. Check where the rotor is pointing. Should be directly at #1 on the cap. Sounds like it may have jumped timming which means its time to change the timming chain & gears. Also make sure the ground wire from the breaker plate to the distributor body is good. (That one had me stumped for a few days)
