I don't envy you, I would never want to try to rewire even a car as simple as the Maverick. The collapsable column started in 1970. As far as nothing working, check the grounds. I really don't know what to tell you, if its connected right then it should work, you're the only one who can actually look at the car (I feel you pain though!)
A thought about the steering wheel, have you tryed an axle puller? Seems like if you bolted it on the wheel it'd come off with a few good whacks.
The resistor wire is for the coil I think, but you should have removed that for your MSD setup.

: I am STILL trying to get the steering wheel off my '71.

: Now when I pull the column, I find it isn't like any I've seen before. This one has the collapsable structure that makes the column accordian in a crash. Consequently, I find the column from the steering wheel to the gear box is in 2 pieces that slide together. This just seems to get better and better.

: This car was originally an auto with a shifter on the column and has been switched to a tranny hump shifter.

: I have to ask once again, is there something, anything, that could be holding that wheel on besides the big nut?

: Does anyone have an exploded view of the column they could scan for me?

: Now for this God awful wiring. I have the new fuse block in and all the wires connected per painless's instructions. Big Surprise. almost nothing works.

: Painless's tech support says it's all connected right. They can't figure out why it doesn't work.

: I have starter, but no run. As soon as the car fires and the key is released, the car dies.

: I have no turn signals or flashers or wiper motor. I have a new turn signal switch to put in, hence the need for the wheel removal.

: I have an MSD ignition and distributor which appears to be wired correctly.

: This Ford wiring is insane. Somebody please tell me what the heck this resistor wire is that runs all throughout the car.

: Can you tell how frustrated I am?

: Sorry, I just had to vent.............................
