I had PS in my '72 302 Grabber and pulled it out to put in Manual with a '74 manual steering box. Basically the only things I changed in the system were the center link and the steering box w/pitman arm on it. everything else was from the power setup. It steers harder at slow (almost stoped) speeds but once rolling it is easy to steer and once up to speed it is very responsive. I have 225 60 15's on 15X8 rims on the front with a 7/8" sway bar and springs cut down 2", so the front end is much stiffer than stock and with the manual box I have not had any problems with steering. I think if you went with the manual box on you power set up it would be too responsive and it would probably feel like you were oversteering the car. Also you will have to put the power pitman arm on. You can pick up used steering boxes out of all most every Maverick in the Junk yards for less than $50.00 most rebuilders want over $100.00 plus your core. Your box might just be out of adjustment. To adjust it there is a bolt w/a slot in the top of with a nut on it on top of the box, you need to loosen the nut and then tighten down the bolt with a screw driver until the slack is taken out of the steering wheel then tighten the nut while holding the bolt. that is it. Good Luck!

: My steering box in my 74 p/s factory v8 maverick is BAD!! has about 3 feet
: of slack in it.. I want to replace it but I dont want to put the same ratio back in.
: I have always thought it to be way too slow and no road feel. I read some strings on
: my last message and someone said that some of the mustang boxes will interchange.
: Anyone have numbers or years, resources, please...
