:probably your wiper linkage has worn the pilot hole bigger over the years.the plastic bushing is probably history and when you operate it, it moves until it takes up the slack to finally move the wiper, check your bushing, and just replace them since you already tore it down to check them.

First off, I really like the I idea there is a web site of this quality just for the Ford Maverick.
: I have a '72 Mav with a passenger-side wiper that lags about 2-3 inches behind the driver side wiper. I don't know how the mechanism works, but it seems that there are some broken gears, if that is what it uses.
: It will move left and right, but it will sit and wait for the driver side wiper to be well on it's way toward the other direction before it will move likewise.
: There does not seem to be any kind of unusual noise while the wipers are on.
: At first glance, it looks like it would be a real pain to get to the problem components.
: Can anyone offer me some insight on how to start the first of many repairs I need to make on this car?
: (I'm very new to art of car repair, and bought this Mav for $450 as a project to learn on)
