OK.
The long style pressure plate is also known as the Ford style pressure plate. Ford designed this style of clutch and used it until the 1980s. All 60's Mustangs used this clutch, All big-block and small block Ford cars used this clutch until the 1980's.
The long-style clutch was always used with a mechanical linkage. A cable linkage was never used in the 1960's early 1970's Mustangs.
My car was originally an automatic, but were it a stick, it would have come with what it has now: a mechanical equalizer bar and a long-style pressure plate. When you say these are not original to my car you are right, but if it were a stick originally, they'd be factory pieces.
The long-style pressure plate is good for the strip because it is easily adjustable. The diaphram clutch is better for the street because of less pedal effort and a better clamping force to pedal effort ratio.
Mavericks always came with the mechanical linkage (not cable linkage) and long-style pressure plate (not diaphram) from the factory.
I was thinking about changing to the diaphram style, but I talked to Ram Clutches and they recommended the long style. I think I'll stick with it.
Thanks everyone for their help. -CP
