: : Like, for example, i just learned that the Chevy 350 is only 18 1/2 inches wide. Now WHY did ford have to make their engines 24-26" wide??? It just makes them heavier, and have more vibration!! Not only that, but if they weren't so wide, you probably COULD fit a 460 in a maverick without removing half the front end. ...sometimes ford just doesn't make sense...

: ::::I don't know where your information came from, but my engine swap book has the small block Ford at 22" between the exh. man. and 26" for sb chevy. The bb ford is 27" (332-428) don't have 460,and 27" for bb chevy. These measurements are between ex. manifolds.
Just to make things even more difficult ;) the 332-428 FE (ford edsel) motors are really not considered big blocks, the 429-460 are considered big blocks, why? I have no idea lol. but i will get a measurement in the morning across the motor of a 429 I have in my shop.
