...Pop the air cleaner and manually rev the engine. Then spray water from a mister down the carb bore. The water will cool the charge and cause the carbon to flake off. Just don't drown the engine;-)

: It is what is called "Dieseling" , it is usually caused by carbon build up in the cylinders, and once the engine is hot the carbon becomes very hot and ignites the fuel before the spark plug sparks, and so if your engine shuts off it will continue to turn a few times because the carbon ignites the fuel.Once that has happened , the only way to truely get rid of it is to rebuild the engine, dieseling can do many things, causing a backfire could damage the power valve in the carb., or burn a valve and of course be very annoying.
