I used some old exhaust manifolds off of a buddies motor, I believe they were older 302/289 manifolds but I am not sure. I did have to grind some of the casting ridges that they had to make it go in easier. One suggestion that someone had was to add a spacer or two to the engine mounts, raising the motor a little and allowing some more clearance. For my new motor swap (396 stroker) I stepped up to some headers. I am using some hedman 64-68 mustang 351 swap headers. I have yet to drop the motor in but it I am almost positive that they will work, as others have told me. These are short tube headers with 1 5/8" tubes with a 3" collector. They are part number 88650. The other choice is the pn# 88660 which are long tube headers, but I do not know if they work. If you are going to go with a 351, get the headers, they are only $133 and make a huge difference on a 351 with its anemic exhaust ports not to mention a noticable gas milage increase. With the headers it will be easier to change spark plugs for changing them with the exhaust manifolds is a real pain, luckily it does not have to be done often.
The problem in my case is that 1 5/8" tube headers are way to small. My heads flow over 300 cfm and they are on a stroker motor. After I get the chassis dialed in I think I am going to pull the motor, modify the shock towers if not sub frame the front and build some custom 2+" headers.
As always hope this rambling helped.
