: I believe the piece your refering to is the filler panel that blends into the bumper. On the earlier ones the valance panel bolted there. However the early ones also had a notch in the very front where the stone panel, which filled in between the bumper & grill, stuck out thru this notch to match the bumper ends. Fenders are identical except for this. You can cut the notch out of a late model fender for a small bumper car. I did this when I converted my 77 to small bumpers. Also it wouldnt take much to fill this in if you needed to put older fenders on newer cars.
