How do you switch to buckets in a '76?

I have a '76 that has a bench in it. I plan to switch to buckets, either Escort or Mustang. What do you do about the hump where the cat is positioned. I really don't want to pound that down, because I still need to run a cat, for emissions reasons. Any help would be much appreciated.
