It's a pain in the ass, but the end result is definitely worth it. Took 4 hours and used the wiring diagrams from the MOTOR service manual. There are aftermarket electronic systems that use a Magneto-Optical sensor and they are MUCH easier to install and work great..Crane cams markets one such device and so does Allison Ignition products...
