A friend bought a used one in '77. It was a pretty decent car & we had a lot of fun in it. One night he had it parked outside a bar in Mesa, Az. That was the particular night a woman decided to commit suicide by plowing her speeding car in the ones parked on the street outside the bar. She hit the car behind the Pinto at about 70mph. That car was pushed into the rear of the Pinto. Well, you can guess what happened, can't you? Actually there is good news. 1. She did not succeed in killing herself. 2. The Pinto did not explode (sorry Mr. Nader). In fact he was able to drive it home with the back bumper relocated somewhere in the back seat;-) Sadly, it was totalled, but he ended up
trading to a better car.
The poor Pinto has been unfairly maligned in the press and by ignorant people. And don't even mention the "Safety Nazis" - They lost all credibility with the Horizon fiasco;-)
