Maverick C4 trannys are notorious for breaking the bands inside. usually it is the reverse band and I'm not sure if that also effects 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. The loud clunk definately sounds like a band. They are not that hard to replace and are relatively inexpensive. Good luck!

: Well, more like CLUNK. Going home Sunday night, as I was rounding a corner, the tranny in me Mav let me know the end was near. Heard a loud clunk and the car shook for a second. Everything "seemed" okay until I pulled into a gas station and the damn thing didn't want to go into park. It did after some wiggling. When I got back on the highway, I went to pass a slow moving semi, when the tranny was supposed to downshift into passing gear all the car did was rev to 6000 rpm and make lots of loud noise thru my exhaust system. I let off the gas and the tranny engaged back into third gear. When I got close to home I was stopped at a red light. At takeoff, everything seemed okay until it was time to shift, there was no shifting about it. It was stuck in first gear. Tried to manually shift, probably not the smartest thing I could have done at that point now that I think about it. The Mav made it home, but, it is in my driveway stuck in first gear. THE DAMN THING IS PHYSICALLY STUCK IN FIRST GEAR!!! Crawled up underneath the car on Tuesday and disconnected the shifter to try and wiggle it out of first and into park. Wound up waisting and hour of my life in that venture. Clueless when it comes to trannys, but, I'd say that something has physically broken inside the case. Any tranny experts out there have any ideas? Supposed to be picking up an AOD tomorrow, but, I was supposed to have the damn thing two months ago also...

: As always, thanks in advance for any and all help...
