: Use the B&M shifter, megashifter, or Hurst, v-matic2, you can sink them in the floor a little to reduce the height. both have the backup and netrual safety switch in them. Or if you go with a factory floor shifter you'll have to put the switch on the trans arm down at the trans itself, You'll just have to do some rewiring either way.

Hi , as some of you may know I am converting my 70 Maverick to a 302 car.I just got my Hedman headers lastnight and installed them today , it said on instuctions that I would have too raise the left side of the engine 2 inches to install them , but I did a little wiggling and the went in without raising it.Got both sides on and in their position in 10 min. Now I figured everything was downhill, till now. These headers definitely do not work with a colomn shifter at all (C4 auto trans.), so I need help installing a floor shifter. Now , question 1: where do I position the shifter body over the trans.? And question 2: I now need another nuetral safety switch , I have one that fits directly on the trans. and was wondering where and how do I get the connector into the car so I can connect it to the original colomn connector? Thanks
