The "Bump" on the rubber faces forward. This makes the vac ume hose fit coming out of the rear of the C4 tight but that is the way it is supposed to be. I think that helps to keep that vacume line from vibrating loose. The slots in the metal crossmember give most of the play forward. If you put it in backwards, you just won't be able to bolt it up.
