That's what everyone keeps saying, that the 250 bellhousing is supposed to be the same as the 302's. I'm not so sure that all 250 bellhousing were. Our Mav. was an all origional '71 with a 250 and C4 trans. When we swapped in a 302, we had to change the bellhousing. I just went back to check the block plates and now I remember why we changed it. The bellhousing bolt pattern was the same, but the starter mounting holes were in different locations. The 250 mounting position was higher up along the bellhousing.
I do know for sure that this car is origional. My Dad bought it back in '72. He's had it ever since and was the only one to ever work on it. So I know for sure that no 200 was ever swapped in.
I would still love to know what's going on. Why did we have to change bellhousings and knowone else ever come across this?
