there is no such thing as a carb that is too big...what do you think happens when you floor the gas pedal and the engine is running 2000 rpm? the 302 cid engine only "needs" a very "slight" amount of air...when you have a 500 cfm carb, it is then "too big". I have successfully installed a 850 on a mild 302, but when trying to install a 750 on a built 460 is where I ran into trouble..will not idle, gives up at 5000 rpm, etc...
