: When ALice got her engine swap I had the oil changed as part of the job and I took her in to the local shop (they always let me have a looksie at her underside while she on the rack and are willing to answer any concerns I have there and then). I noticed that even tho' the last oil change had been fairly recent the oil that was drained out looked pretty nasty... much dirtier than I would have expected... I've never used any of that garbage that claimes to be a liquid re-build ( I know it only masks problems ) or anything like that. There's no water residue, mayonaise or worrying signs like that just very thick and black... Did the guy just not change the old oil?
: Should I flush the engine? Am I just being paraniod? After spending $2500 + (not to mention what I wasted on that jackass in Olympia) just to make her road worthy again I don't want to take any chances..

i wouldnt worry about it. most oils will turn black or well on their way within 1000 miles of a change. the only ones that will not are clear oils (synthetics) that carry twin oil filters commonly known as by-pass filtration systems. one filter is a common filter (25 to 30 microns) and the second traps particles down to 3 to 5 microns. -DH-
