Someone probably figured out that the airflow in that area of a car is the most dense and plumbed an air scoop to it. If you've ever looked at wind tunnel air flows over a car, you'll notice that on a lot of cars, the hood area is actually in a vacuum area and that the front edge of the roof has the most air flow. I put a 8" air scoop on my Maverick and fit an airbox underneath it and picked up .2 seconds and 4 mph in the quarter mile. I would imagine that my results would even be better if it were 10-12" up off the hood.

: I was watching a racing scene on tv the other day and noticed a scoop on the frontmost part of a car's roof. What does this do? I seems like all you could use it for is a vent. I thought it looked pretty sweet, and was just wondering.
