I went and looked at the Lincoln Versailles 302 …1979. I can now see I'll have to get a starter, torque converter, dip stick, and eventually valve covers (because the stock ones are loaded with emissions brackets). Then I need a new water pump, intake and carb. The intake and carb could be used in this case but why not get new! Breather cap, PCV / tube, air cleaner, distributor…I'm not sure what else. I assume that I can use the fly wheel, pulleys, harmonic balancer, and alternator bracket. That reminds me, I need a fan too. I just switched to a 16" Imperial only a few months ago…unless it works on the v-8. I can use my 250 radiator. Right? Does the 250-throttle linkage work on a 302? How about the 250's new coil? Oh yea, the motor mounts…I just ordered the frame mounts, but I need the rubber part. 600 lb springs…Right? But, I can live with the I-6 springs for a little while. Already have a 1" sway bar in the mail…installed an anti-"role" bar, ¾," only a month or so ago. Does a long block come with rockers and such? Should I use a donors timing cover? Does a long block come with a timing chain? What year should I get…do any years have timing gears? Ok another question, do I need the v-8 cross member/frame brace what ever it is? What is it called exactly? Oh yea I need a new fuel pump, unless my 250 pump will work. The new fuel filter on my 250 will do fine it seems. -------------------- The reason I started this thought was to say I didn't get the engine because I didn't see enough stuff that I could use, therefore; I saw no rush t buy. I'm just looking for a 302 to be a daily driver. I'm not going to the drag strip. Which reminds me I need to switch to disc brakes. I began thinking that, Hey the 250 is running fine now… save the money, get the miscellaneous parts you need and find a core when your ready…. YOU LIVE IN AN APPARTMENT! Buy a junk second ride so that the daily driver can become a project car and do it right! (whoo, I'm out of breath). Find a place to do the swap and do it right. Back to what I need…. Exhaust (duals with stock manifolds which this donor didn't have). So, eventually I'll need sub-frame connectors, a hoped-up cam, a floor shift and headers. Any advice on a drop-in and go daily driver set-up and the cheapest route….Let me know…..Any advice or thoughts at all! The only ting that engine seemed worth was as a core. At $175 it was worth that seeing how a long block runs $650 with and $1000 with-out.
THANKS
