: Hey folks,

: With the talk a few days ago about the proper shifter arm when changing to a floor shifter...I began to wonder, what if you install a new aftermarket shifter that operates with a cable. Do you have to worry about the proper arm on the XMSN? Just curious? I am currently scoping out another '70 model to swap a 302 into and would be installing one of these types of shifters. I'd just like to know if anyone has done it already, so I don't run into any suprises!

: Thanks for any help!

Just on my way out to the drag strip for the weekend, saw your question and thought I would give my 2 cents worth. I use B&M shifters if three cars, two Mav's and a Fairmont. One of the Mav's is street legal and the cable shifter is the best way to go. Just have to route it so it does'nt touch headers etc. Simple to attach and adjust. Don't know about using the Ford kickdown rod, have always cut my lever off the trans. You have the shifter on the floor at your fingertips anyway and if the need arises, just slap it into second, thats all the kickdown really does when you mash the footfeed to the floor. Off to the races.
