Take your boyfriend, If he stay's silent the mechanic doesn't know if he knows anything about cars or not and is less likely to get himself caught. One of my friends that is a girl went and got a estimate on her car and thought it was high, so I took the same car in with her, had her say I fixed a few things (even though I hadn't touched the car) and the esimate was considerably cheaper. I still laugh at the guy saying, "Wow, looks like you did a good job here, couldn't have done better myself."
