If you did a compression test and everything turned out fine(looks like it did), then I say your piston and rings are fine. I would turn to the cyl. head as key culprit. As other have suggested, the guide may leak.

Did you have them replaced during the valve job? All it takes is roughly 70k miles on iron guides and they can be finished and need replacement.

When you pull the head, look for build up on the intake valve(port side, not chamber).
