After it shuts down, does it restart? It's likely to be the fuel pump or airflow meter, I work at a shop that specializes in nissans and have replaced both more than once on the Z cars. If they (the mechanics) haven't tested the airflow meter, then they haven't tried everything.

I have also run into problems with the fuel tank clogging the sump. When the car shuts off, the crap falls back down but after a few minutes of running it will clog up again. This is easy to test with a fuel pressure gauge, and would usually be accompanyed by excessive fuel pump whine. Hope this helps some. -CP

: I know that this question does not relate to Mav's but it is a real puzzler. My boyfriend has a Datsun 77 280z. He is having a problem with the cold start. When you turn the car on it will stay on for 2-3 minutes and then suddenly shut off. It doesn't stutter or anything but just completely shuts down. All of the vacum hoses and stuff are new because he just had the engine rebuilt. He had this problem before having the engine rebuilt thinking that maybe it was a vaccum leak. Before the rebuild it did not stahl out but would backfire out of the cone K&N that he has. The mechanics have tried everything and can not figure out what the problem is. Could it be the computer? Fuel pump? AirFlow Meter? The fuel pump has good pressure but every now and then it will lose a little. Could this be the cause? He has already spent so much on this car that we can't sell it. He is open to any advice. Thanks so much.
