I am getting ready to start preping my car to get painted, I have $1000 dollars to do the whole thing, if it goes over my parents will help me with the cost. I am going to do it with 73 grabber decal's and a vinal top. This is my first time doing this and I hope I won't F#*K up to bad. I am taking it to Earl Scheib (stop laughing, I'm a poor college kid) to get it painted with the Pearl paint, 2 tone, 2 Extra Clear coats and the UV coat. I am going to remove anything that doesn't need to be painted from the car (trim, bumpers, ect.) I will basically be driving a pair of tail-lights to Denver and once I'm there they come off to. After its painted I am going to have the vinal top put on so it doesn't get overspray on it. My questions are,
1. How long should I wait to have the decal's put on?
2. How long should I wait to have the Vinal top put on, I don't want to get my paint scratched/smeared.
3. How long should I let the car sit in my garage before the paint has properly set and won't be harmed by the sun?
4. Should I take off the parts I want painted different colors, tail-light panel, Rear Spoiler, ect. so they can be painted seperately?
5. Can I just sand down the existing paint or do I have to primer the whole car? What would be the difference in end quality?
6. Any other suggestions?
The mav will sit in my garage and the paint will set while I drive my motorcycle for at least a month. I'm in not in a rush to get this done, just so long as I can drive to the big meet in Columbus, I am really looking forward to that.
