heads aren't any difference from the outside, they even have the same intake/exhaust ports and valves. HiPo block, casting number C5OZ-6015-C, only diff is Main caps are thicker. HiPo heads, C5OZ-6049-B, only difference that can't be duplicanted is the cast valve spring pockets, every thing else is either the same or can be swapped in just as a HiPo damper can if someone thinks it's better for them.
Other things that made it different but can be added on is, Valve covers, Holley carb, air cleaner, dist, exhaust mnifolds, solid lifter cam/lifters, threaded rocker studs, yellow stripe on back of block, Damper, high nodular crank,
Casing info and special designs are the only thing you can't hide, Even a Boss 302 block can be a phony from the outside by installing threaded in core plugs. Which is one of the first things you look for.

: The balancer is visibly different and the heads are visibly different from the outside, but I can't tell you exactly how, visit some mustang websites and ask, you'll get a clearer picture. I suggest mustangsandmore.com, its a good source of info like that.

: Of course, from the factory all HiPo's had a 4V, chrome vlave covers and air cleaner, and dual point distributor. These can be easily added to a regular 289 though, but the balancer is the key difference. You cannot use a HiPo balancer on a regualr 289. -CP

: : without pulling it apart, casting numbers is the only way to tell.

: : : Sorry to sound stupid, but how can you tell a Hi-po 289 from a generic 289? The owner is an old man who has owned the car for many years, and he doesn't really know much about it, other than that it has a locker rear. I can probably buy the whole car for a couple of hundred bucks.
