: About the HiPo in Mercurys. It was available in the Falcon-based Comet in 1965.

: : First off true hipo 289s 271hp (K-code) were only in Mustangs and Fairlanes. They had solid lifters and 4 barrel autolite carbs. The harmonic balancer was thicker and it had hipo exhaust manifolds also a mechanical advance dual point distributor. Some of the most noticable differences. The Comet had a 289 4barrel(also called a K-code) with 220hp with none of the hipo stuff. Also I think this was only availible in a Comet Cyclone. Most were T-10 4sps. Mercury and Ford were two different divisions hense the K-codes being different. Bill

Hi Charlie, I saw that information on the Hipo Comet on the M&M board. I also read the info I put on this board in a ford publication.I'll dig it out and reread it. I'd like to know for sure. Thanks Bill
