I haven't read all of the books recommended below, but I'm sure they are good. I don't want to insult your intelligence, but if you don't know the basics of the internal combustion engine, that's be the first step. Get a library book or an encyclopedia and familiarize yourself with engine theory, and what makes horsepower and torque. -CP


: I've done a lot of work on my Maverick and Comet on the body and interior, and know the brake system reasonably well. When it comes to engine work though, I don't know what I am doing. I just don't have the experience. I've thumbed through a few shop manuels, but they usually seem to assume that the user has some experience and are therefore too advanced for me. Has anyone seen a good book that introduces someone who is "not in the know" to the basics?
