Side signals?! I've never seen a Mav/Comet with them...

...as for the brake lights, try the switch mounted on the pedal "arm" under the dash. Disconnect the plug and 'jumper' across it...if you then have brake lights I would replace the switch. (This IS assuming the front/rear signals ARE working properly!)
