: alright, i talked with this dude more and he SWEEEEARS that it is a ford 360 and he says that the only modification needed would be the engine mounting bolts or something. one part of me thinks i should just keep the stock block and stroke it to 347... the other part says 300 bux is not bad for an engine with an extra 13 cubes stock, and i could easily stroke that out even bigger. either way i'm still doing headers, dual exhaust, etc. but the question is..... which block to use??????

jason,
i cannot think of a worse motor you could install in a maverick, than that 360. the 347 stroker idea makes a whole lot more sense.
$300 for a truck motor, that only existed for like 2-3 years, is not a bargain. furthermore, it was never was popular or known for its performance. i recently borrowed my brother's 74 ford explorer, 4 speed, 360. i had it for several weeks. it pulled just fine. it was all torque and tow. it was worthless for anything else. rev it all the way to the redline, and i think a stock 302 maverick, would still take it. it wasnt peppy. and it also got the worst fuel economy of any vehicle i have ever driven.
i'm just trying to keep you from making a terrible mistake. this engine is not worthy of a maverick. i can think of at least 10 better engines.
this guy will tell you anything you want to hear, to sell you his motor.
a) its not a good motor for the maverick
b) horrendous fuel economy
c) very sluggish and heavy
d) extensive modification and expense to install in a maverick.
(it can be done i suppose, if someone really wanted to prove a point. but why?)
have you not noticed how tight a squeeze the 302 is in a maverick?
putting that heavy big block in there is really gonna screw things up.
