Judging from your descriptions, this is a 433. Thanks a lot for you help. Any idea what cars this tranny was used in? Hurst insallation kits are based on specific cars, and the Maverick isn't one of them. I'm wondering what this tranny came out of and how closely it is related to a Mav. John B.

: I'll give this a shot. It could be 1 of 4 models that I have data on. The 431 has an indentation in the top of the tailshaft about 1/3 of the way back, like someone hit it with a pipe. the Speedometer gear goes on the drivers side. The 432 has a bottle shapped tail shaft & There is 2 sets of 3 holes . Looks like a shifter could be installed in 2 different locations. looks like the spedo gear is on the passenger side. This is actually an overdrive trans. The 433 has an even tappered tailshaft & 3 mounting holes. one about in the middle & 2 vertically aligned toward the back. Speedo is on the passenger side. The 434 has an even tappered tailshaft. The 3 shifter holes are the opposite of the 433. ( 2 vertically in the middle & 1 in the back) The speedo is on the drivers side. Hope this helps
