strutrod bushing replacement

Help, can't get the strutrod to fit back in the lower control arm with the new bushings. Lacks one half to three quarters fitting into the holes in the control arm. Have backed the rear nut off as much as possible. Should I loosen the control arm? All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks,
