First off true hipo 289s 271hp (K-code) were only in Mustangs and Fairlanes. They had solid lifters and 4 barrel autolite carbs. The harmonic balancer was thicker and it had hipo exhaust manifolds also a mechanical advance dual point distributor. Some of the most noticable differences. The Comet had a 289 4barrel(also called a K-code) with 220hp with none of the hipo stuff. Also I think this was only availible in a Comet Cyclone. Most were T-10 4sps. Mercury and Ford were two different divisions hense the K-codes being different. Bill
