My 74 Mav with the 289 has the 2.87 open rear. I'm considering a gear change to 3.55 or so. Right now the car will smoke one tire all day long.I assume if I put 3.55's into it will "break" the tires loose even easier. My question is, from a performance standpoint, will it come out of the hole quicker with the 3.55 even if I have to ease up on the gas to get it to "hook up" I guess what I'm asking is, if the car over powers the tire(s) with the 2.87 gears now, how would a gear change to 3.55 help if I can't leave the line at full throttle?
