On my 73 I still have the chrome bumper shell. I justed gutted it and had a pair of custom aluminum brackets made, the whole thing now weighs under 10 pounds, instead of the 50 or so the mess weighted stock. Downside is if I ever ass end anybody...
You can remove the inpact beams from the doors or find earlier ones to get rid of a little weight as well as ditching A/C, PS or a score of other items, just depends on what you use it for.
