The Mustang pump looks almost identical externally but the impeller is backwards because the pump turns backwards. The Mustang water pump pulley is smooth and it runs off the smooth side of the serpentine belt therefore it spins backwards. It also uses a different front cover.

The bolt pattern on the Mustang pump is different from the Crown Vic (and earlier V-belt pumps) to keep the pumps from being interchanged. I see in your site that you have a serpentine belt setup with what looks like a smooth pulley. But the belt is ribbed side down which means that the pump is turning clockwise which is incorrect. Since I assume you are using the old style front cover this might be ok.... Are you having any overheating problems?

: Are you sure the crown vic was the only pump with the right rotation?. I have an 87 5.0 pump on my car and all the stock hoses fit perfect. And I could a swore the mustang I was looking at had the pump goimg the right way.
