It could be a bad starter. You also could have hit a spot in the ring gear that is missing teeth. You need to crank the engine over just a little bit to get past this bad spot(if that is what you have). You can use the fan to move the engine by holding down tigh on the fan belt and moving the fan. Make sure the bottom pulley is moving as well, and not just slipping. If you move the bottom pulley...then you moved the engine. This is really just an "emergency" type fix. You need to pull the starter first and see if the teeth are missing in the spot where the engine is at now.

: I have a 70 Mav with a I6 and it won't start. I have replaced the starter and it worked for a week. Now the starter just spins as if it does not connect with the flexplate. I have a new battery, solenoid, and a few new wires. Can anyone help with any info. I did notice that the teeth on the flexplate are still there but the front of the teeth are a little worn but it should work. All the connections are good and the ground seems to be okay.
