: i have a 70 mav. it has a 302 with c4 tranny. my question is should the starter have a plate between it and tranny. when i bought it there was no plate, friends said i needed it(chevy friends)so i put one on. is this right or wrong??? thanks for any help possible...

It should have the plate installed between the block and bell housing. I have run some without it, if the starter engages ok and the converter is not binding should be ok. Best bet is to use what came from Ford and be safe.
