: i have a 70 mav. it has a 302 with c4 tranny. my question is should the starter have a plate between it and tranny. when i bought it there was no plate, friends said i needed it(chevy friends)so i put one on. is this right or wrong??? thanks for any help possible...

i thought the same thing, but it is my understanding that ford did not put a 302 in 70 mavs.(is that correct?) i bought the carwith the 302 in it already. it is a drag car and the previous owner had done alot to it. i have lost his # and don't have anyway to get intouch with him to help answer any questions i have. when i go to the parts house i give them a 72 302 to look for parts and so far all the parts have fit. i am sure most 302'2 around that year are all the same. there is no plate between the bell housing and block in my car. i started having trouble starting the car at the track, people said the plate was missing, but it used to start fine before!!! you can hear the gear spinning but it is not engaging. is that the bendix or the cylinoid???? once again thanks.
