: A short block is the block, crank, rods, pistons. A long block is a short block + the heads, and normaly a cam. If you bought a new long block from, lets say Ford, you would still need to buy an intake, carb, exhaust manifolds, timing cover, water pump, and all of the electrical parts. I've never heard of a salvage yard selling short blocks. If you plan on doing this engine swap as a first time project I would suggest finding a Maverick with a V-8 to you can get all of the needed part(right Paulie? *grin*). A for help, this board it full of all of the answers that anyone would ask about a Maverick. (just search the archives) Hope I answered some of your questions.Russ
