There are 2 built in circuit breakers the headlight switch. One that will kill every light on the car except the headlights and the other controls only the headlights. If you added sportlamps to your car & wired them into the light circuit(most people wire them into the parking light circuit)without going thru a relay, then it will overload the switch & cause them to momentarily go out. It works off a heated bimetal device so it can take some time for the thing to heat up & trip, unlike a current sensing device that would trip immediately. If you don't have the sport lamps then, like everyone has suggested, start looking for chaffed wires or corroded connections.
