I have 3.55s in my '73 and I have had it up to 125mph. Runs at exactly 3000RPM @ 65mph (this will vary with tire height). Fuel consumption is worse on the highway but unchanged on the street. Also noticed that MY left front spring is starting to "sag"...oh well, after 28 years, whattya expect?...

: I recently swapped out my 3.00:1 ratio for 3.55's. It helped acceleration and midrange power was more usable. I have had my car up to 110 mph with the 3.00:1 ratio (was able to pull more, but car didn't feel very stable at higher speed). I have pulled 110 mph with the 3.55's as well, so top speed in these cars isn't really that limited with the 3.55's and a C4. If you want to go faster 110 (I have no need to), I would upgrade the suspension a little to handle higher speeds. One of my problems is that my steering box is worn, coupled with worn drag link, inner tie rods, small sway bar, sway bar bushings, and old springs (left side is starting to sag in front). I think my next big investment is a bigger front sway bar, new rear sway bar, 620 front coils, 1 inch drop, and poly-bushings. BTW, my RPM's at 65 were approx. 3,200 RPM's. My gas milage did drop a little (1-2 mpg depending on area, traffic, and lead foot). An AOD as 74Merc said would help out a great deal and would bring milage back or may even better it. Hope this helps.
