: I am constantly back and forth on what engine I am going to build for my car. I am aiming for "RACE" use. I am currently saving up for the rebuild which I am planning on for Oct. I have posted various engine ideas, but I am never totally focused on only one engine. I usually think of 2-3 combos. Usually I think "new technology", with a Cobra R 5.4 DOHC. Unfortunately, this is impractical because extensive mods would need to be carried out (i.e. shock tower removal). So I eventually settle with a 331 (stroked 302) with Victor Jr. or Trickflow R heads and a supercharger. But when I think of this, I also think of the 351 C. The 351C is more "period" correct looking and has more CI. The Cleveland would get BlueThunder race heads and NOS or Supercharger (unsure at this time). So as you can see I am having a hard time deciding which way to go. I am going to have an est. 10K to invest in strictly motor, then plus NOS or supercharger. What would your oppinions be if you could choose?? 5.4 DOHC with shock tower removal, 351 C (possibly needs shock tower removal??), or a 331 Supercharged? My goal is to be a high 9 to low 10 sec. car. I will have tranny questions soon.

With all of the neat Windsor stuff out and available, I personally am building either a 396 or a 408 Windsor based on a 351. You can buy the complete rotating assemblies alredy balanced from Eagle including steel crank, forged pistons, H beam rods, rings and bearings. With all of the new trick aluminum heads you can get a good set for under 2000.00 or you can get a whole package, including cam, heads and intake that are all matched from Edelbrock. I know the shock towers have to be modified but that is not a very complicated procedure, and if you add in a strut brace and subframe connectors it should be a very strong assembly. Toss in a main bearing cap girdle which includes a built in windage tray, a good oil pump and a Jacobs ignition and it should scream. I am building one for the street and strip, but I am going with 12.5 to 1 pistons. The race fuel is available hre where I live at the gas stations and I realistically won't be driving it out of town, so..... My final thought is "There ain't no misplacement for displacement"
