Fastman, if you are going to spend that kind of cash why not go with a 460! Installing the mustang II rack and pinion will cost you. But, I think it would be cheaper to build the 460 and install the new suspension than building a stroker with all the fixin's. Remember, it is easier and cheaper to get 460 horses out of a 460 than trying to get 460 horses out of a 331. Stroke the 460 and you probably will not need the NOS or the huffer! There, you just saved some more money! I've seen relatively mild 460's running in the high 10's in the quarter mile. Of course this is using a fairly light car, but the mavericks aren't very heavy either. Also, consider the cost of replacement. Would you rather replace some easy to find easily ported cast iron heads on a 460 or 2500.00 aluminum units on the 331? With all of the money saved you could easily tub the car and install a 4-link and improve performance. Whatever you do, don't "overbuild" the motor for the car. I don't how modified your car is currently, but be prepared to make modifications if you start making HP with NOS and blowers. The mavs were NOT designed with this in mind. Good luck and keep us posted.
