I saw your last request for opinion on the car you want to construct and did not reply so heres my take on your project.
First always be realistic in terms of cost to attain 10 second performance and can it be sustained through a race season. That said lets go though the equipment line up.
REAR: should be tubbed for narrowed 9" rear outfitted with race grade center section,31 sline aftermarket axle shafts. Next to a trans.,a race grade C4;powergilde auto as I don't feel a manuel will hold as long. Also need roll cage.
Keep in mind all this specialty equipment costs $$$.
Look at the power level it will take to move about 3000 lbs to the 10s. This can be found by looking over the ford mag articles.
As far as the engine, the 5L has been proven for many years now to be stout enough to do your time when equipped with the best parts and topped with a turbo charger set up. Ive saw these set ups many times at Maple Grove
and Engishtown on ford weekends. There are plenty of shops to do the engine for you. If you go with the 5L block, your front end work will be at a minumn of up grades. As a piont of reference there is a 300 inch 6 cylinder
powered Mav out of N.Y.state that runs in the mid 11s so you can figure that the power level would need to be in the 500 hp up range with enough extra to get in the 9s.
To finish up here I feel your total cost will be in the $15000 plus range and can you afford to keep it going afterwards? Ive outlined equipment that will allow for more power in the future without having to rebuild or replace much.
Good luck and hope you can pull it off.
