: I am constantly back and forth on what engine I am going to build for my car. I am aiming for "RACE" use. I am currently saving up for the rebuild which I am planning on for Oct. I have posted various engine ideas, but I am never totally focused on only one engine. I usually think of 2-3 combos. Usually I think "new technology", with a Cobra R 5.4 DOHC. Unfortunately, this is impractical because extensive mods would need to be carried out (i.e. shock tower removal). So I eventually settle with a 331 (stroked 302) with Victor Jr. or Trickflow R heads and a supercharger. But when I think of this, I also think of the 351 C. The 351C is more "period" correct looking and has more CI. The Cleveland would get BlueThunder race heads and NOS or Supercharger (unsure at this time). So as you can see I am having a hard time deciding which way to go. I am going to have an est. 10K to invest in strictly motor, then plus NOS or supercharger. What would your oppinions be if you could choose?? 5.4 DOHC with shock tower removal, 351 C (possibly needs shock tower removal??), or a 331 Supercharged? My goal is to be a high 9 to low 10 sec. car. I will have tranny questions soon.

My suggestion is to get the chassis ready to handle the horsepower first and then worry about making lots of power. I agree with the 351W stroker concept as that is the direction I'm headed right now. I've just gotten the car back from the chassis shop and it cost me almost 7k to get a rear clip w/fourlink and subframe connectors and 8-pt. rollbar and this does not include wheels, tires and center chunk or the rear dics I've just installed. And yes this is a street car that can be raced. So I hope your budget is big enough to handle both parts, because all I can afford motor wise is a little 306(370hp est.) to shake the car down with. The rest has to be left for the next fiscal year. Good luck!
