probably pinion bearings, u-joints will give you a vibration when they go bad.

: I've been hearing a flopping noise coming from behind relative to axle rotation. It's not tires or wheels--I've changed those. Just on curiosity, I reached up to feel the rearend and axle for heat [friction]. The only place I felt heat was the yoke coming out of the differential. After parking about ten minute coming off at freeway speeds, the yoke was almost burning hot. Would this be normal? -Doug
