Most of the time I found that the problem with these is the float develops a leak & no longer floats. I found out that you can still buy the float & "O" ring gasket for the 71-77 Mav's & Comets from Ford. The float part # is COAZ9202 and the o ring is COAF9276. I picked up 2 of each today.
