: ok, i put in my 302 finally yesterday , after much pulling and tugging to thread the long bolts thru the engine mounts. i ran up the bellhousing to engine bolts a few threads, and i managed to get two of the TQ conveter nuts on. however, the two that i got on are not opposite to each other, and the other two studs don't seem to want to come thru the holes in the flexplate. it seems as if the whole thing is cocked to one side. tried shifting around stuff, slackening etc. to no avail, till it was too dark to see. anybody have any tips for this or do i have to just keep moving it around? are all TQ convertors like this? i seem to remember seeing one that used bolts instead of nuts and studs.
: any advice appreciated.
: thanks,

I am assuming that you are installing the engine with the transmission still in the car. If so, and you have gotten the bell housing on the dowels and the bolts snugged up, your problem might be either the torque converter is not seated in the front pump or you may have the wrong flywheel. Also have found that sometimes the snout on the converter will not go into the end of the crankshaft because of dirt, rust, etc. Best bet is to leave the engine bolted in and pull the transmission to check all this out. Measure bolt pattern on flywheel and converter to see if they match and clean pilot stub and end of crank. Be sure converter is seated in pump, are you using bell housing spacer plate between block and trans? Yes some after market converters use bolts or socket head capscrews. Let us know what you find, maybe something we have not run into yet.
